After a courageous battle with cancer, Tangie T. Shephard, at the age of 60, peacefully departed this world on Thursday, February 1, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on October 13, 1963, to Artis Mitchell and Barbara Mitchell in Jacksonville, Florida Tangie brought boundless joy and laughter into the world from the very beginning. Graduating from Sandalwood High School in 1982, she embarked on a journey that would touch the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
During her teenage years, Tangie crossed paths with Richard “Shep” Shephard, and the two shared a love that blossomed into a beautiful marriage in July of 1985. Their enduring union lasted over 38 years and blessed them with two wonderful children, Richard and Amethyst.
Tangie was a pillar of strength and love, dedicating herself fiercely to raising her children. In addition to motherhood, her roles as a grandmother and aunt brought her immeasurable joy. Her grandchildren, Evan and Sydney, along with her niece, Joi and nephew Artis, lit up her world. For Tangie, family always came first-a value she instilled in everyone fortunate enough to be a part of her life. The void created by her absence is irreplaceable and will not only be felt by her family, but also by all of her dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Artis Sr.; sister, Arnessa; and brother, Troy. Tangie is survived by her adoring husband, Richard; children, Richard (Hillery) and Amethyst; mother, Barbara; brothers, Artis and Torlund; mother-in-law, Rosa Lee; sister-in-law, Coranita (Rob); her grandchildren, niece and nephew, along with a host of other family members.
In celebrating Tangie's life, let us remember the warmth she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the love that will forever reside in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
