With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Vanessa Elaine George, who left this world on Friday, January 9, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Born on September 26, 1963, Vanessa was a vibrant spirit whose laughter and warmth touched the lives of everyone around her. She made her mark on the world in so many ways, and her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the community she loved dearly.
Vanessa was the cherished daughter of John George Jr. and Christine Wyche George, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Terrace George. She was raised in Jacksonville, where she attended the Public Schools of Duval County, ultimately graduating from William M. Raines Sr. High as part of the Class of 1981. Her education was just one of the many milestones that shaped her into the compassionate and dedicated person she became.
Throughout her life, Vanessa found fulfillment in her career at the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a sorter. Her dedication and commitment to her job reflected her strong work ethic and her desire to contribute positively to her community.
Family was at the core of Vanessa’s life. She is survived by her four brothers, Cornell George (Teki), Phalisha Tillman (Annette), Charles George, and Bernard Wyche; as well as her beloved sister, Jeanette Walker. Vanessa held a special place in her heart for her favorite aunt, Ernestine Jones. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends who will deeply miss her presence.
Though Vanessa’s life was far too short, her legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her vibrant spirit will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of calling her a friend, sister, aunt, or daughter. She had a unique ability to bring people together, and her laughter could light up the darkest of days.
In these difficult moments, we find solace in remembering Vanessa’s boundless love and the joy she brought into our lives. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will forever shine in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Vanessa, and thank you for the many wonderful memories. You will be profoundly missed.
