Vera Denise Hartley was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 7, 1957 to the late Elmer and Luella Hartley. She was the ninth out of nine children. She was a smart and well-adjusted child. She matured into a bold beautiful confident woman of God.
Vera attended Samuel W. Wolfson High School class of 1975 and was an alumni of Florida State University. She resided in Jacksonville, Florida most of her adult life. She also resided in Memphis, Tennessee and Chicago, Illinois. Vera was employed by the United States Treasury Department as a Special Agent for twenty-eight years. She retired and moved back to Jacksonville to be close to her family.
Vera was a strong woman of faith, who gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was affiliated with Julington Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Institutional and was currently a member of Christ’s Church on Greenland Road. Vera loved to sing and travel; she went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with Christ’s Church that impacted her greatly. She also loved to go on cruises. Vera was a certified yoga instructor; she also earned her black belt in karate. Vera loved, loved shopping, gardening, and most of all host family gatherings. Vera was a license Realtor with Watson Realty and Berkshire Hathaway Realty.
On Thursday, October 26, 2023 after living a full life and fighting a good fight, Vera went home to be with her heavenly father. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, one brother, Elmer Hartley, Jr. (Idalia); three sisters, Algerine H. Williams (Johnny), Carolyn H. Hamilton (Henry Sr.) and Geraldine H. Bradford (Charles Sr.); special sister, Yvonne Allen; seven godchildren, Walter Chijioke Onuegbu, Noelle Gillyard, Chelsea Chatham, Keith Blue, James Crump, Angelica Stokes and Kingston Johnson; and forty-three nieces and nephews.
