Walter “Bubba” Hayes was born on March 2, 1949 to the late Eddie Hayes and Gladys Adams. Walter received his formal education in Duval County, but his passion was the outdoors which led him into landscaping.
Walter worked for Brightview for 40 years until he retired in 2014. During his pass time, he loved watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys play football and his favorite, Westerns.
Walter also had the best lawn on his block. Thick green grass with curb appeal winter and summer. He never met a stranger, and everyone enjoyed being in his company. His nieces and nephews were affectingly called auntie and uncle. He loved laughing and teasing and just so much fun to be around. Walter was also known for his famous Ham; he would make for either Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Walter met the love on his life Lucille in 1969 and they were married April 13, 1974 for 48 years. He loved Lucille and you never saw one without the other. They were inseparable. The love they shared with each other was like no other.
Walter Hayes went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Adams; father, Eddie Hayes; and brother, Eddie “Pop” Hayes, Jr.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Lucille “Ann” Hayes; sisters, Barbara Hayes and Frances Cooper; brother, Richard Hayes; sisters-in-law, Margaret, Delores (Floyd), Mounital (Tommy), Shona (William), and Deborah (Eric); brothers-in-law, John (Brenda), WC (Monique), Sam and Jim (Deborah; dear friend, Hollie Anderson; godchildren, Wilbert McClendon and Travis Davis; special names, Lourita “Dee-Dee” Davis, Marva Colley, Elijah Williams and all co-workers at Brightview; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
