Ms. Wanda Elaine Daughtry was born on February 27, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the fourth child, and only daughter, born to the union of Mr. John Wesley Daughtry, Sr. and Mrs. Sallie Atkinson Daughtry.
Wanda, who was known by her family members as “Elaine,” confessed Christ and was baptized at West Union Baptist Church at an early age. She was actively involved at West Union as she sang in the Church’s choir, served on the kitchen committee and was a member of the Board of Trustees during the planning for and transition into the current edifice. In more recent years, Wanda was affiliated with Oil of Joy Church Full Gospel Ministry and New Thing Outreach Ministries through which she volunteered her services and provided financial support.
Wanda attended the Duval County (Fla.) public schools and graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1978. Wanda, who had a beautiful voice, was a member of Terry Parker’s chorus which travelled to Central America to perform there in concert. After high school, Wanda matriculated at the University of Florida where she received a degree in political science and made lasting friendships.
During her career, Wanda worked for the Duval County School System, worked as a residence hall director at Edward Waters College (now University), worked in insurance sales, and was an instructor for a national company which provided skills training and prepared participants in the Jacksonville area to re-enter the workforce. She was also a volunteer at the Emmett Reed Community Center in Jacksonville.
Wanda was also a devoted daughter and faithful caregiver during her mother’s declining years.
On January 18, 2026 (exactly one month after her brother, Vaughan, left his earthly home), God, in his love and tender mercy, saw fit to relieve Wanda of the pain and troubles of this world. Wanda entered into eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with her beloved late parents and brothers, Cecil E. Truesdell, John W. Daughtry, Jr., and Vaughan C. Daughtry, who also preceded her in death.
Wanda leaves to mourn her passing, but cherish her memory, one brother, Emery J. Daughtry and a host of sorrowful cousins and devoted friends.
