Wendy Barrow Obituary

Wendy Maureen was the first of two daughters born to Leslie and Marjorie Arthur in the Parish of St. James on the Island of Barbados (West Indies).  Her early education was at Paynes Bay Girls School, secondary education at Alexandra Girls and the Modern High School. In 1959 Wendy emigrated to the United States and graduated from Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, New York.

Wendy and Rudy first met at a beach when they were teenagers 14 and 16 years old and became friends.  In 1960 Rudy emigrated to the U.S. Coincidentally it was Wendy’s mom who asked Rudy to bring a cake to her and who later drove him to the airport when he left the island.

Rudy joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and began correspondence with Wendy. They became engaged and married in 1963.  The marriage was a happy one and lasted 57 years until her passing.

Wendy loved her family, church and many friends.  She played the organ at times at St. Stephen and St. Martin Church in Brooklyn, NY.  Upon moving to Queens, NY she joined St. James the Less Episcopal Church. She became a faithful member and happily attended with her husband and children.  She was an active member of St. Faith’s guild.

Wendy’s first job was at Manhattan Life Insurance company. After studying at the Institute of Dietetics, she eventually found her life-long career in nutrition services where she worked as a Dietary Supervisor at Beth Abraham Hospital in the Bronx, New York. She worked full-time while expanding her education at Lehman College achieving her Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She continued to work in the field for over 30 years working at Beth Abraham Hospital, Albert Einstein Medical Center (Bronx, NY) and finally Franklin General Hospital (Elmont, NY) until her retirement.

Family members that passed on before her, mother, Marjorie Richards; father, Leslie Arthur; sister, Judy Clarke; from the Arthur family, Alston, Ruby, Iris and Elsie; from the Alleyne family, Clarendon, Anne, Lano, Evelyn and Jessica.
