William Crawford, Jr. Obituary

William A. Crawford Jr. was born in Marianna, FL on March 9, 1934 to Thelma Bryant Crawford and William A. Crawford, Sr. (Sport). William was educated in the Public School System of Jackson County Public Schools. He graduated from Jackson County Training School in Marianna, FL after which he enlisted in the US Air Force. After retiring from the Military, he went on to earn an AA Degree from Florida State College of Jacksonville and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Florida in Business.

On August 15, 1957 he Married Mamie Robinson and to this Union, of 63 Years, was born two daughters, Debra, and Yvonne.  As a Military Family they traveled to many States and Countries Including Montgomery, AL, Bermuda, Illinois, Oklahoma, Savannah, Georgia, Adana, Turkey, and the last duty station was Omaha, Nebraska.  He retired on December 31, 1975 after reaching the highest NCO rank of Chief Master Sargent. During his military career, he was a Meteorologist and was recognized with Awards and Commendations for excellence including being named Weather Forecaster of the Year. After his Military Career he spent 20 Years with the State of Florida, Department of Children and Family Services where he became a Supervisor. 

From a child William was taught the word of God and at an early age he was baptized in St Luke’s Baptist Church in Marianna, FL.  In 1977, William was ordained as a Deacon at Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church.  He served as a Deacon at Greater Friendly Baptist Church and Acts Missionary Baptist Church. 

William was the third child of 12 Children born to Thelma and William A. Crawford, Sr., (Sport), which consisted of 8 boys and 4 girls and he was affectionately called Jr. by his parents and siblings.  His parents, Sport and Thelma as well as sisters, Mary Walker and Sallye Crawford and his brothers Ronald Crawford and Thomas Crawford, predeceased William.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 63 years, Mamie Crawford; daughters, Debra West (Timothy Sr.) and Yvonne Jefferson (Brian Sr.); grandchildren, Brianna Jefferson, Justina Jefferson, Timothy West, Jr., Brian Neal Jefferson, II (Tionna), and Mariah West; great grandchildren, Kinsley A. Davis and Keagan A. Davis; brothers, Norman Crawford, Charles Crawford (Nancy), Virgil Crawford, Gregory F. Crawford (Sheryl), Patrick R. Crawford (Carolyn), and Gerald Crawford (Justine); sisters, Charlene Brown and Pamela Redding (Ernest); brother-in-law, Billie Joe Robinson (Dorothy); sisters-in-law, Helen Crawford and Corinne Holland; god daughter, Nakeeta Collier (Paul), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  Dedicated Caregivers, Leandra Yeomans, Edlicia Tomlin and Nurse, Anna Stephens.
