Willie Allen, Sr. “Sugar Babe” was born on September 3, 1923 to the late Adolphus and Nellie Allen in O’Neil, Florida.

Affectionately known as “Captain Sugar Babe” he lived his life as a fisherman from the tender age of 9.  He embarked on his journey within the fishing industry.  He made a living for his family as well as grew a found love for the trade. Anyone that knew him knew of his great love for fishing.

He left O’Neil, Florida and met his wife, Yvonne Beatrice Ruffin Allen, which brought him to Mayport where he lived until his death.  He and Yvonne conceived two sons, Billy and Wilbur as well as raised two of their grandchildren, Al and Marilyn. 

On Thursday, March 12, 2020 “Sugar Babe” passed away. He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Yvonne Beatrice Ruffin Allen; his second wife, Delores Emanuel Allen (Spencer); and his eldest son, Willie Allen Jr. (Billy).

Willie leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Wilbur Allen (Brenda), Willie Allen III- Al (Jennifer) and Richard Drayton (Tara); grandchildren, Marilyn Allen Craig, Anthony Harris and Sherie Davis; great grands, great great grands; a devoted family friend, Tanya Thornton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from the Florida Coast to the Bayous of Louisiana (Cameron, Jennings, Lake Charles, and Lafayette), Port Author, Texas, and Delaware.  He will be greatly missed.
