God is infinitely wise; He loves perfectly and is completely sovereign. Therefore, it was His will to call Zelma Bowman Gardner to eternal rest. She slept away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on August 30, 1924 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Joe and Nora Bowman.
After coming to Jacksonville, Florida, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health began to fail her. She loved her family, church, her Pastor (Dr. Landon L. Williams, Sr.) and was strong in her faith, often saying, “Jesus will take care of me”.
Zelma B. Gardner retired from Swisher King Edwards after many years of dedicated service. She was a very giving person and loved cooking for her family especially her grandchildren and neighbors.
Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; one sister; and one nephew, Sidney Green. Heartfelt memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted children, Walter Gardner, Jr. (Mary), Corine Steward, David Gardner, Sr. (Debbie), Nathaniel Gardner, Sr. (Cheryl) and Herman Gardner; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Bowman and Leona Bowman; nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Mary F. Green; a loving cousin, Betty Watson (Gerald); goddaughter, Sharron Mays; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sarah L. Carter's Funeral Home Northside is serving the family.
