Welcome to the memorial page for

Virginia Greene Duffy

May 30, 1926 ~ November 16, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Virginia G. Duffy of Jacksonville, Florida, died November 16, 2017 at home.  Virginia was born on May 30, 1926 to Isiah and Bertha Greene, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the fifth of eight children.

She graduated from Stanton High School and later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Florida A&M University (FAMU). She met and married George Mack Duffy and from this union four children were born.

She taught in the Duval County Public School System as a junior high school teacher at Wesconnett Jr. High and later taught elementary education at Justina Elementary for over 35 years.  She retired in 1991 but continued with her love and passion of teaching by becoming a substitute teacher and educating children through tutoring and private sessions. She loved people especially children and wanted them to be successful in school and life.  In the neighborhood she was like a parent.  No child would be left out if they needed food or even a place to stay.  She would go without to make sure her family and friends had what they needed regardless of her own needs.

She served as Secretary for Florida Voters Association for over 20 years until the founder, Mr. Joshua Hillman passed away.

Mother Duffy attended Prince Chapel AME Church in O’Neal, Florida, where she served in the church under Pastor Roger Burton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isiah and Bertha Greene; son Kenneth Ronald Duffy; brothers, James Smith and Isiah Green; sisters, Alberta Green, Juanita Gray, Ida Mae Morris, Lucille Black and Onelius Beatty; and brother-in-law, Alvin Lee Morris Sr.

She leaves to mourn one son, Michael D. Duffy (Pamela); two daughters, Sheryl C. Duffy and Karen B. Duffy; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Ronald Duffy, Jr. (Elsa), Robin Billings, Dinna Duffy, Tonya Williams (Kosygin), Detra Tucker (Kenton, Sr.), Willie Pernell Stevens, Kanya Ferrell and Kinte Duffy; twenty-three great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Anne Greene; daughter-in-law, Gloria from her late son Kenneth Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
